Terms of Service

1. About Satomaa

Satomaa is an online marketplace that connects local food producers with consumers in Finland. Producers use Satomaa to create pickup events and accept pre-orders. Consumers use Satomaa to browse available products, place orders, and arrange pickup directly from the producer.

Satomaa operates as a marketplace platform only. We are not a party to the sales transaction between a producer and a consumer. The contract of sale is directly between the producer and the consumer.

3. Using Satomaa

By creating an account or placing an order you confirm that:

• You are at least 18 years old.
• The information you provide is accurate and up to date.
• You will keep your account credentials secure and not share them with others.
• You will use the platform only for its intended purpose and in compliance with Finnish law.

We reserve the right to suspend or close accounts that are used in violation of these terms, that are involved in fraudulent activity, or that receive repeated complaints from other users.

4. For producers

As a producer on Satomaa, you are responsible for everything related to the products you list and sell. Specifically, you must:

• Comply with all applicable Finnish food safety legislation, including the Food Act (Elintarvikelaki 297/2021) and any regulations governing the specific products you sell.
• Hold all required permits and registrations for the products you sell (e.g. primary production notification, food establishment registration).
• Provide accurate product descriptions, including allergen information, ingredients where required, and prices inclusive of VAT.
• Maintain appropriate cold chain handling for temperature-sensitive products.
• Honour orders placed through your events. If you need to cancel an event, notify affected consumers as early as possible.
• Respond promptly to consumer questions and complaints about your products.

Satomaa does not verify product descriptions, certifications, or permits. We reserve the right to remove listings or suspend accounts where we receive credible complaints about product safety or misrepresentation.

5. For consumers

When you place an order on Satomaa, you are entering into a purchase agreement with the producer, not with Satomaa. By placing an order you confirm that:

• You intend to collect your order at the time and location specified in the event.
• You understand that pre-paid orders are subject to the producer’s cancellation policy. If a producer cancels an event, any online payment will be refunded.
• If you reserve an order for onsite payment and do not collect it without prior notice, you may be recorded as a no-show. Repeated no-shows may result in restricted access to future orders.

6. Payments

Satomaa is a reservation platform. We do not process or hold any payments on your behalf. All payments are made directly between the consumer and the producer.

• MobilePay in advance — If the producer has shared their MobilePay number, you can send payment directly to the producer before pickup. Satomaa is not involved in this transaction.
• Pay at pickup — You reserve your order and pay the producer directly at the event by cash, card, or MobilePay. Satomaa is not involved in this payment.

Prices shown include VAT where applicable. The producer is responsible for correct VAT treatment on their sales.

7. Cancellations and refunds

If a producer cancels an event after you have reserved an order, any payment you have already sent to the producer directly (e.g. via MobilePay) is subject to the producer’s cancellation policy. Satomaa does not process payments and therefore cannot issue refunds.

Consumers may not cancel a confirmed reservation unilaterally. If you are unable to collect your order, contact the producer directly as early as possible. Whether a refund is granted for a consumer cancellation is at the producer’s discretion.

Under Finnish consumer protection law (Kuluttajansuojalaki), the 14-day withdrawal right for distance contracts does not apply to perishable food products. Orders for food products placed through Satomaa are therefore not subject to the general distance-selling withdrawal right.

8. Intellectual property

Producers retain ownership of all content they upload to Satomaa, including product descriptions, photos, and profile information. By publishing content on Satomaa, you grant us a non-exclusive, revocable right to display that content on the platform and in related communications (e.g. event reminder emails).

The Satomaa name, logo, and platform design are our property. You may not reproduce or use them without our written permission.

9. Our liability

Satomaa provides a technology platform that connects producers and consumers. We are not responsible for:

• The quality, safety, or legality of products listed by producers.
• The accuracy of product descriptions, allergen information, or certifications.
• Disputes between producers and consumers.
• Producer cancellations or no-shows.
• Uninterrupted or error-free availability of the platform.

To the extent permitted by Finnish law, our total liability in connection with any claim arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant order.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of Satomaa after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Finnish law. If a dispute cannot be resolved through direct negotiation, consumers may refer the matter to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta, kuluttajariitalautakunta.fi). Disputes may also be submitted via the EU online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. Any legal proceedings will be heard by the Helsinki District Court (Helsingin käräjäoikeus).
